Cut the cycle of living paycheck to paycheck

Jul 11, 2018

You would not believe how many times I hear "If I just had more money, THEN I'd be able to save."

Eeerrrrrrm...no.

Let me be real: everyone (and I do mean everyone) needs to spend less that what they bring in.

Sounds like an obvious no brainer, right?

And yet over 75% of the population are living paycheck to paycheck. SEVENTY-FIVE!!!! 😲🤯

So if the dough you’re bringing in aint big enough for your desired lifestyle, then you need to do one or all of the following three things:

💰#1
Cut out the crap that is not serving you (damn, I could actually spend a whole month writing about this).

And no...I’m not talking about cutting out your $3 morning coffee. Although, if you’re spending $20 a day on coffee then yah, you need to move to that instant Nescafe stuff and save that $100/week habit that working 9-5 is costing you.

No, I mean the gym membership you don’t use. Work out outside instead. And buying clothes that you never wear - when you could buy second hand, swap with friends or hang out with Bob at the Op-Shops. I’m serious, Op-Shops are dope.

💰#2
Bring in more money. If you want more, make more, don’t spend more.

There are many ways you can do this; asking for a raise at work (there is a very subtle art to doing this...a formula, if you will), start a side hustle, change jobs (this is actually where you often see the largest pay bumps in your career), get a second part time job, use the many amazing share economy services (AirBnB the couch, Uber, offer services on Fiver or Airtasker to name a few). And I could go on...

If you’re yelling at the screen right now, “I can’t make more, I’ve already tried!” then stay tuned for building block #6. That’s all I’m gonna say.

💰#3
Sacrifice a little now to have more later (AKA short term "pain" for long term gain).

If you're spending everything you bring in each week, then reducing the number of dinners out and cocktails each week is going to be a lifestyle adjustment in the beginning.

If it feels like you can't imagine packing your lunch everyday or cutting out your almost-daily Ubers, then head back to Wealth Building Block 2 from a few weeks back and get super-connected and insanely passionate about your future goals. You need to want your future more then today's unquestioned habits.

You got this 💕
